Jeungpyeong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do, Korea, will create a “living SOC-type storytelling

space” with the theme of the efforts of reader Kim Deuk-shin and the faith and stories of his father Kimchi.

 

The storytelling space is prepared in the section connecting Jeungpyeong County Library, Kim Deuk-Shin Literature Museum, and Youth Culture House, Songsan-ri,

Jeungpyeong-eup.

 

Jeungpyeong-gun is planning to create a story mural, a photo zone, and a reading shelter by dividing this area into four themed zones, such as ▲ Faith ▲ Effort ▲ Reading

▲ Deception.

 

In addition, three painting trees (Younguijeong, Jwauijeong, and Rightuijeong), which are

called scholar trees or “jeongseung trees,” are planted to enhance the symbolism as an

educational space.

 

Landscape lighting is installed in places where the lights around the library are not shining to make the environment safer and more comfortable. The project cost will be covered by 300 million won, including 140 million won, which was secured as a basis for balanced

development in the Chungcheongbuk-do region last year.

 

Baekgok Deuk-Shin Kim (1604-1684) is known as a person of atmospheric chronicity who suddenly passed away at the age of 59 through constant reading such as reading 113,000 times of Baekyijeon.

 

He was born in Jeungpyeong and was buried at the foot of Jwagusan Mountain in Yuli,

Jeungpyeong-eup. His father, Kimchi, is also the'Father of Faith' who believed in Deok-Sin Kim, who became stupid from smallpox as a child.

 

Since 2013, Jeungpyeong-gun has been focusing on ‘Informing Kim Deok-Shin’ by

creating a storytelling village with the theme of Deok-Sin Kim and producing comic books and webtoons.

 

In particular, from 2018, the self-produced' reading geek Deuk-Shin Kim' character has

been put into public relations exhibitions, producing good results in improving the

awareness of Jeungpyeong-gun.

 

There is also a wealth of educational policies named after Kim Deok-shin, such as

Deok-Shin Kim Baek Il Jang, Deok-Shin Kim book review contest, Deok-Shin Kim reading marathon, and Deok-Shin Kim career camp. Last year, the Deok-Shin Kim Literature

Museum was opened.

 

Seong-yeol sHong, Mayor of  Jeungpyeong-gun, said, "By creating a space with the stories of the entire library, we will make the county library, the Book King Deok-Sin Kim

Literature Museum, and the youth culture house a representative cultural trio in the

region."
