The number of places to install solar power is increasing. Solar power generation facilities, which can be seen mainly on the veranda of an apartment building and on the exterior

walls of buildings, are newly established as fun and convenient facilities in our lives.

In this regard, the city of Seoul has created a 'experience-type power generation facility'

incorporating new solar technology in the Seoul World Cup Park and Ttukseom

Hangang Park, which citizens like, and said that it is becoming a new landmark in the

region.

 

The experiential solar power generation facility built this time was created as one of the

'2022 Solar City, Seoul' policies. The goal is to increase the understanding and acceptance of new and renewable energy through solar power facilities that citizens can “see, walk,

and enjoy” and ultimately reduce greenhouse gases through expansion of new and

renewable energy.

 

The photovoltaic power generation facility installed in Seoul World Cup Park is a circular

stage with a diameter of 20m in which solar and LED panels are buried on the floor of the plaza. It produces energy through solar panels during the day and displays colorful

LED video art at night.

 

'Solar Square', which was built in the constellation plaza in the park, was the first in Korea to use sidewalk block-type panels, and installed 1,171 solar sidewalk blocks on the

rim of the stage and 2457 LED sidewalk blocks in the center.

The facility capacity of the solar sidewalk block is 13.35kW (1,171 sheets × 11.4W),

producing an average of 59.7kWh of eco-friendly energy per day. This is the average value of daily power generation through the integrated monitoring system in Seoul from March 11 to June 1. Inside the Solar Square, a facility was built to enable LED video production.
     
The stage induces citizens' interest by showing colorful graphic images such as flowers

and constellations at night. It is especially popular with children because you can play with your heart's content along the rapidly changing stage screen.

 

The Seoul Metropolitan Government explained that it plans to create a video with simple and clear contents to induce the interest of visitors and to use it in various ways for

citizen events such as festivals.

 

The video is directed 6 times after sunset (screening for 15 minutes per session, waiting

for 15 minutes) and can be viewed 365 days. The video was produced by the Department of Visual Design at Kookmin University through industry-academia cooperation.

 

It is composed of'The Universe', which is a motion graphic method of content symbolizing the constellation park, and the'Flower Garden', which provides gorgeous photogenics to

citizens by dramatically expressing the lively blooming and burden of flowers.

 

In the future, the city of Seoul plans to continuously plan and show interesting content

such as festivals, events, exhibitions, and family events through directing the'Stage of the Sun'.

 

“The World Cup Park, where Solar Square is installed, is close to the nearby World Cup

Stadium, Haneul Park, and the cultural storage base, so citizens who use nearby facilities

can easily access it.” “In addition to providing attractions, consensus on solar energy and

eco-friendly energy is enhanced. It is expected to be,” he explained.

 

Meanwhile, in Ttukseom Hangang Park, solar light and LED sidewalk blocks were buried

on the bicycle path around the waterside stage, and the visibility of cyclists at night was increased to ensure citizens' safety.

 

A total of 288 solar sidewalk blocks and 504 LED sidewalk blocks were installed along the bicycle path line on the “Solar Road” in the 250m section of the bicycle road.

 

Citizens can ride their bikes more safely by following the LED lights at night. In addition,

the Ttukseom Hangang Park has a'new and renewable energy theme park', such as a solar shade screen, a solar electric vehicle charging station, and a solar light symbol, and is

expected to be a space where you can experience sunlight in a comprehensive way.

 

The used solar sidewalk block was developed and manufactured by a domestic company, and it has IP68-grade waterproof performance by integrating the mold and solar module, and has more than twice the bending strength and abrasion resistance of the sidewalk

block KS standard.

 

New technologies in the solar power generation field have been combined, such as

increasing power generation efficiency through a surface protrusion structure.

The Seoul City plans to use it as basic data through facilities such as solar roads after

continuously monitoring the power generation and durability of the solar block facility.

 

Furthermore, it is expected that in the future, the solar block facility will be applicable to many fields such as wired and wireless charging for electric vehicles and smart road and

city construction.

 

Ho-Sung Kim, head of the Seoul Green Energy Division, said, “We expect to raise positive awareness of solar power by installing solar power facilities incorporating new

technologies in World Cup Park and Ttukseom Hangang Park, which are visited by many

citizens.

 

By creating facilities, we will make Seoul a symbolic city for solar power, while presenting

the direction of solar power as a hybrid of public goods such as plazas and roads, and

playing a leading role in the public sector.”
