Currently, the government is actively distributing'solar power generation facilities' throughout Korea. The government's goal is to increase the ratio of renewable energy, which is

currently around 5%, to the level of 20-30% in the future. Based on the government's

policy, local governments across the country are actively engaged in solar power

generation installation projects.

In this regard, Mapo-gu, Seoul (Gu, Yoo-gyun) announced that it plans to install and

distribute mini-solar power generation devices in 70 apartment security offices in the area by the end of July.

Mapo-gu added that as a result of the application for the “community housing security

room mini-solar power supply project,” which the Seoul Metropolitan Government entered in last May, 14 apartment houses in the region were recently selected as targets for the

project.

Accordingly, by the end of July, 700W-class mini-solar power generation devices will be

installed on the rooftops of a total of 70 apartment security rooms in Mapo-gu. The

installed solar energy is used as power consumption for small air conditioners and

electric heaters used in the security room, and is expected to help conserve power in

common houses in apartments.

According to Mapo-gu, 70 mini-solar power generation units planned to be installed can generate a total of 57,000 kWh of electricity annually. This is a level that can be expected

to reduce electricity bills of about 8.5 million won per year and 25 tons of carbon dioxide.

When the project is completed, it is expected that the poor working conditions of

apartment security guards will be partially improved amid intensifying abnormal

temperatures in summer and winter due to the recent climate change.

On the other hand, Mapo-gu is planning to actively recommend eco-mileage subscription for additional energy savings for apartment apartments, which are the target of the

project, and provide mileage benefits for additional energy savings.

Mapo-gu Mayor Yoo-gyun Yoo said, “If you actively use solar power, an eco-friendly

energy, you can reduce electricity bills and reduce fine dust, so we ask for your interest

and cooperation.”
